The market town of Admont is located in the north of Styria (Austria) at the Gesäuse National Park. The market town – one of the oldest settlements in Styria – comprises the four municipal areas of Admont, Hall, Johnsbach and Weng im Gesäuse. The municipal area covers about 300 km², making Admont the second largest municipality in Styria after Mariazell and the fourth largest municipality in Austria. As of January 1, 2021, 4,954 people lived in Admont.
The most important economic factor in Admont is tourism (winter as well as summer tourism). The nearby mountain region of Gesäuse and the Kaiserau are popular hiking and skiing areas. Founded in 1074, the Benedictine Abbey of Admont has the largest monastic library in the world and is a cultural heritage as well as an important regional employer.
